Molsom Tribe Sought Govt. Approval For Customary Law

            Ampi, 25th of April 2025. Aiming to create integrated, civilized and prosperous Molsom society the tribe is struggling hard to obtain the state government approval for the Molsom Customary Law. As per the Molsom social administrators, customary law is essential for a community or tribe due to its multifaceted role that fostering social cohesion, to patronize own heritage, constitute peaceful society, promote cultural preservation, and maintain effective governance. Customary law embodies a community's heritage, historical tradition values and worldview serving as a living of its cultural identity. It ensures the transmission of heritage, protect cultural erosion from external influences. Customary Law promotes fraternity, unity and collective responsibility. Its familiarity fosters voluntary compliance, reducing conflicts and reinforcing trust within the community and tribe. In regions it contributes with limited access to formal legal systems. Molsom Customary Law offers a practical, localized mechanism for resolving social and individual disputes. Its oral traditions and use of local languages make it convenient, even for non literate members. But disputes like killing, suicide, rape etc are not entertain in Molsom Customary Law due to paucity of technical issues. Emphasizing reconciliation over punishment Molsom Customary Law processes aim to repair harm and restore relationships, maintaining community harmony. This approach often involves restitution, aligning with communal values.   Unlike rigid statutory laws, Molsom Customary Law evolves organically with society changes, allowing communities to address new challenges while retaining cultural continuity.  Molsom Customary Law system often include ecological stewardship practices tailored to local environments, ensuring sustainable land use and resource allocation critical for livelihood. While indispensable, Molsom Customary Law must align with Indian Constitutional standards to address potential issues like democracy & integrity. Harmonizing tradition with contemporary rights ensures equitable out come for all community members. In essence, Molsom Customary Law is a vital framework that empowers communities to self-govern in ways that are culturally.meaningful, socially cohesive, and adaptively resilient. Considering the aforementioned points, Molsom tribe has constituted a state level Customary Law Advisory Committee to emphasize the practice of the law and the same is submitted to the TTAADC council. The TTAADC council has approved and passed to the State Government first time in 2020. The Molsom tribe social administrators have drawn the attention of the state government authority to avail approval of their customary law to constitute a peaceful and prosperous society.
