Tripuraprottoy Correspondent: A heated situation arose today at Dharmanagar Government College, one of the educational institutions in the northern district. Angry students today locked the college gate in protest as the authorities did not take any effective steps despite repeated appeals to resolve the long-standing problems of the college. The students alleged that the shortage of books in the college library, the poor condition of the toilets and the shortage of teachers are long-standing problems. Complaints have been made to the principal Dr. Gautam Das many times regarding this. But no visible change has taken place. Several students had to be admitted to the hospital when they fell ill in the heat. However, even in this situation, the principal did not come forward to check on them even once. This 'silent role' of his has created further anger among the students. A large police and TSR force are present at the spot to control the situation. The protesters have informed that the agitation will continue until their demands are met. The main demands of the students are adequate books in the library, proper toilet infrastructure, and adequate teacher recruitment. No official response has been received from the college authorities or administration on this issue so far.
