Tripuraprottoy Correspondent, Dharmanagar: Dharmanagar, the cultural city of North Tripura, witnessed a special theatrical evening onb Saturday. The play “Sukhlaler Kissa” written by Shuvrodeep Chowdhury and dramatized by Uddalak Bhattacharya was staged under the banner of ‘Bornamaala’ at the Ardhendu Bhattacharya Memorial Bhavan. The direction was given by Debabrata Banerjee. He has also left an impression of expertise in the field of lighting, atmosphere and sound design. He was assisted by Abhirup Pal in creating the atmosphere. Amitabh Nag(Partha) played a major role in the production control and acting of the play. Under his skillful acting and leadership, the entire theatre group presented a lively performance on stage. The central character of the play is Sukhlal, an artist, a common man. Poverty and the complex pressures of society have a profound impact on his life due to the influence of the gradually disappearing folk art (chadar-badr). The play is not just a personal story, but reflects the entire society. This play is a reflection of human tension, class conflict and the harsh reality of life. The dialogue and background music rich in folk elements make the atmosphere of the play more strong and emotional. The performance of the artist playing the character of Sukhlal was particularly noteworthy, which touched the hearts of the audience. In addition, the lively acting of all the characters in the play, the stage decoration and the use of lighting turned the play into a deep theatrical experience. The audience was fascinated by the depth of thought and the novelty of the presentation of the play. “Sukhlaler Kissa” is not just a play—it is also an attempt to keep a lost folk culture alive. The play is a socially conscious statement, a protest, which raises relevant questions in the context of society through the art of drama. This effort by 'Bornamala' undoubtedly opened a new horizon in the theatrical practice of North Tripura.
