Staff Reporter, Dharmanagar: With the objective of creating social awareness against child marriage, a village-level awareness programme titled “Child Marriage–Free India” was held in the Baruakandi village area under Dharmanagar subdivision of North Tripura district. The programme was jointly organised by the North District Administration and Arghyadweep Sangha.The programme was attended as the chief guest by Bhavatosh Das, Vice Chairman of the North Tripura Zilla Parishad. Other distinguished attendees included Dr. Dipak Haldar, Chief Medical Officer of North Tripura district, eminent physician Dr. Prasunkanti Bhattacharya, President of Arghyadweep Sangha Biswajit Pal, along with several other notable personalities.During the programme, speakers elaborately discussed the harmful effects of child marriage and stated that it is not merely a social evil but also a major obstacle to the physical and mental development of children. They particularly highlighted how child marriage severely affects the education, health, and future of girl children.The speakers further emphasised that along with strict enforcement of laws, social awareness is extremely important to prevent child marriage. Only through collective efforts by families and society can the goal of a child marriage–free India be achieved.At the conclusion of the programme, an appeal was made to the general public to spread awareness and actively participate in preventing child marriage.
